The club first staged the race in 1991 and since then the event has grown in size and status. The Newcastle Triathlon Club stages the Foreshore Triathlon each year to promote community spirit and the sport of triathlon in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.
The 2008 race consists of a 500m swim, an 18km bike ride and a 4km run conducted around the picturesque Newcastle Foreshore. Race distances are chosen to help ensure first-time triathletes are able to finish comfortably and enjoy the experience of triathlon racing. The fastest competitors complete the race in around 45 minutes with the slowest crossing the line after one and a half hours.

"Being a Novocastrian originally, it’s always great to come back to Newcastle for the annual Foreshore Triathlon. The race is always well organised and well run, and most importantly has loads of spot prizes! It’s a credit to the organisers at Newcastle Triathlon Club. See you in February" - Stuart Baverstock, Balmoral Triathlon Club
